So i wanna do an all black or black and red interior because im absolutely sick of tan this tan that.....ford has some of the most disgusting interiors ive ever seen . Main question is what is a good brand of paint to do the plastic parts and what would be the best way to dye the headliner and carpet?
Next thing is seats and steering wheel swap and add a floor shift console out of a newer model truck like 04 up or whatever years had those and was wondering if any of the newer trucks came with black cloth seats? As for steering wheels i want one with lighted controls or a grant wheel would be nice but unsure on adapters.....I dont care about the airbag btw cause its not hooked up anyway.
Last is red leds for the dash lights and some accent lighting.
You'll need the core support, and the inner fender wells from the 80-86 truck, yes.
Wiper cowl from an '87-91 truck will work.
I'm planning on doing this same swap myself.
People have had great luck with using VHT spray paints for both dying fabric and painting plastic, but there may be something better out there. I've used VHT for carpets and vinyl in the past with no issues.
Seats and floor consoles will require mods, but they've all been done before and searching around the Internet will bring up plenty of King Ranch seat installs and whatever else is out there.
People have swapped in the 1st gen Super Duty steering wheels and wired the controls up to work, so that is probably your best bet. I think anything newer than that might look out of place if it could even be made to work at all.
Instrument cluster lighting change is fairly easy, just spend some time gently scraping the green color off the back of the gauge faces. Then either use colored bulbs, or recolor the clear sections however you want, with whatever color you want.
Awesome man thx for the reply! Do you know what year they started the floor shift? Just trying to get a range of years i can look for. Honestly Id like to do and entire dash swap out of the newer F150s or even a Lincoln dash swap.....And if i can ever find a complete wrecked parts truck im gonna tackle it. As far as seats go building the mounts etc i can handle.
Any recommendations on fabric to wrap the dash, door panels and trim pieces in? I want something sorta soft to the touch....maybe faux swede or maybe faux leather
If you're talking about manual shifters on the floor, they've been doing that for decades. If you're talking about automatic shifters, you're gonna be doing a custom job one way or another. I've seen a the TCI Streetfighter shifter used on trucks with the AOD, but not sure what options you have if you have the E4OD or the C6.
Dash should be an easy wrap with leather; the door panels aren't so easy... I'm wanting to wrap mine myself, but the contours of the panels make it hard to wrap nicely without air gaps, at least using real leather. I planned to make several pieces, and then sew them together, but it's very hard to even make a template of the door panel to transpose onto the leather. I'm assuming of course that you have a '92+ interior.
The flatter panels of the '80-91 trucks will be an super simple wrap compared to the contoured panels of the '92-96 trucks.
Personally, if I had the option, I'd happily go for the 87-91 interior, dash included, because it just looks better to me!

Im talking about the trucks with the same floor shifter and consoles as the raptors.....our trucks shifter cable will connect right to the raptor and all like floor shifters...i had a write up on my old computer that went into detail on using them but lost it ina hdd crash. Yes my truck is a 95.....Thats what i was thinking is the dash wouldnt be to bad but the door panels looked like they would be fun although could probably use the older style. Id love to modify and transplant the 04 and up dash and once again i had some good info on doing the swap that got lost in the same hdd crash.

As for newer seats, NOTHING is going to bolt in. 03+ Superdutys with he FX4 pkg had black cloth seats
Been keeping my eyes out but so far all the power door panels are trashed and yes i know nothing newer is goint to be bolt in but making seat mounts will be easy compared to actually finding some lol and thx for the year info!
