So our 2001 ex we got last summer has had a driver seat issue. Its all electric but will not move. When you try to move it forward it just clicks. Anyone else have this issue? Do we get a whole new seat?
Any experience with electrical diagnosis? Can you learn to use a voltmeter? Shouldn't be hard to fix; might be something simple like a fuse or chaffed wire.
1 No vote for 'getting a new seat', but I get your frustration!
I would take it apart and clean the tracks really good. Everything that falls down in between the seats has the potential to foul the tracks (screws, coins, pens, toys, food...). There is a good chance something is stuck in between the tracks and the cogs on the motor.
Also, try this: Lay the seat back ALLLLLLL the way back as far as it will go. It might reset the seat motors. This has worked for some in the past...but not everyone.
Good advice from NicMike!
Does your power mirrors work? There is a 5 amp shared fuse that could be out, I don't remember the fuse location number though.
The most common problems are either a bad switch, bad/pinched wire, or something jammed in the track. Any of these is usually a fairly simple and cheap repair.
That you hear a "click" implies that it is getting power but it never hurts to check the fuse anyway. I would try unbolting the seat (requires Torx sockets), tilt the whole thing forward, and look underneath for problems while operating the switch. Then trace all the wires looking for one broken or with the insulation damaged. Last of all put a voltmeter across the motor terminals and see whether they are receiving power when you activate the switch.
The most expensive part is the switch but it isn't that pricey and is fairly simple to change out. If it is bad go with a new one. Motors I would get from junkyard. Switches, no.
Mine does this on occasion where it won't work at all. Give it a brief period of time and it will start working again. Never bothered to delve into it too much since it rectifies itself.

I have a similar issue where it doesnt come up often enough to put in the effort to try and fix

We have done the seat all the way back and that didnt work. Cleaning the track is next.
With the seat all the way out and the cushion detached, you can plug the seat lower frame/motor in and watch it while you operate the buttons. That will give you a better idea what the problem is/might be.
