The bed on this 69 CS with aux. tank has had something happen to the left front bed mount at some point in it's life. I'm wondering if it wasn't that way from the factory. I had to make and weld in a patch, grind everything smooth, apply bondo, sand and prime. It's ready for paint. I'll have to get an aerosol can of turquoise mixed up at the local paint shop. I'm glad the original bolt and spacer were kept safe in the glove box.
Like it never even happened! My 69 CS had a torn spot in the same bolt hole. I think it was caused when the original buyer had the tailgate down and back into something solid. It put a football sized dent into the top edge of the tailgate, and it wouldn't close without help from a forklift.
Looks good. Best guess is that the bolt wasn't tightened properly at some point, and the wiggling causes the metal to stress and crack. bang up job on the repair.
