I bought my truck in '69, and after a few years as a stock Hi Boy, I converted it to a flat bed, with behind-the-cab winch & boom.. Now, I am converting it back to a factory bed. The winch, gantry, & booms will stay, which has required some mods to the floor in the bed. So far, it is working out pretty well. Comments & suggestions are most welcome, as my old brain can use help, when inventing...
Thanks guys, I really like the factory bed too, even if it has a raised portion in the center... Looking for a fuel cell, and meanwhile, toying with the idea of having a fiberglass tank made here, at the local boat shop.. It would be custom, and while I am at it, I probably will have them make a hatch cover, to go over the raised portion in the bed.. If I have them make it strong enough, I can mount a pair of fold down boat seats on it, like the old Suburu Brats used to have... No law about riding in the back here...

Baja
Gonna look Killer when done Baja.
By the way.....looks more like a Buttlift than a facelift to me.
Kool idea to switch back to a regular bed. I like flatbeds but sometimes it's nice to have bed sides and a tailgate. I'm still up in the air on what one I want to go with on my truck. Got any side view pics showing the whole gantry setup?
Hope these photos are better views, and I will take some more today, we are suppose to have lots of sun today...
The old winch is a Bower 303, which is rated at 30,000 lbs. I found it in a junk yard, , in Carson Ca. in 1970. Scored it for $25.00 back then. The power take off, is a Chelsae, and it is bolted to the back of the transfer case, on the center shaft, so when the transfer is in neutral, and the winch engaged, I have 4 speeds up & one down. Power down is way cool.
So true Dave... I had not thought of it that way, but, you are correct. I have never thought of my truck as 'Two Faced'.. but technically, this could be a 2Facelift... The front however, now sports a 4 core, all aluminum radiator, which shows a different face than the old black radiator. I kind of like it so far, but it does change the traditional appearance... Now, the old rig is full up front, and ample behind... like some ladies I am familiar with.
Back to the rear bumper mods.... a weld & grind day...

Progress on the rear bumper... thinking back. I prolly should have just pulled it, but true my nature, I went over the top when attaching it some years ago... so to expedite things a little, I just cut off the ends with the plasma arc... so... a short cut, turns into the long way around... will I never learn?? Anyway, it was easier to deal with the small pieces than the entire thing... see for yourselves...
