There was a thread about these fiber shims not long ago.
Dimensioned drawings were shown.
I think it might have been started by Fuzzface.
When I replaced my fenders a couple of years ago, I used a bondo spreader.
It seemed about right for size and thickness.
It wasn't brittle and I had it on hand.
I will say it worked good till I took the fenders back off for body work & painting the insides and some of the shims cracked/fell apart.
I don't know if I will go back with new ones or find something else?
The spreaders is good as they would not crack but all the ones I have are pink or yellow and paint will not stick to them to well.
Also they are not flat, they taper from thick were your hold it to thin at the spread end.

Just remember, Don't shim to the hood, If you do there and be ugly gaps with the door.
Door aligns to the cab 1st.
Fender aligns to the door (not hood) 2nd
hood (cowl) aligns the fender.
A found aftermarket fenders are not accurate as to where the horizontal bend is, you get the door gap and line looking good and the hood is out, Get the fender to hood correct, (with the shims) and the door gap is out (sometimes pinching).

Yes, the Bondo brand spreaders are kind of flesh colored.
But if you use the 'handle' side, that part is not tapered.
My truck is not for show or correctness. I just want something functional.
A horizontal spacer shouldn't be required as long as the two bolt positions are spaced equally , yes ?
What is this you talk of???
Is it the shim he has marked in red?
If so that holds the top of the fender up to have fender body lines line up and the fender to A post and cowl.

Thanks for all the responses guys! Does anyone know the thickness of that original shim? Also... So they are fiber shims? I can't remember now that my truck is apart at the shop.
The ones in my truck seemed to be fiberboard.
They are long gone so I can't really measure them, but if i had to guess I'd say around 3/32.
(definitely more than 1/16, and probably less than 1/8)
