I may be trading from a F250 to a F150, what kind of loads have you pulled comfortably with the 150? I would be towing around 7K and that would be less than 40 miles one way.
I've very comfortably towed a little over 6K with my 5.4, 4x4, 3.73 LSD, S. Crew, 6.5' bed, and max tow package. Longest trip was a little over 300 miles and I averaged a little over 13.5 MPG at 65-70 MPH.
I'm setup the same as shotgunz (5.4, fx4, 3.73, screw, 6.5' bed, max tow) and I tow 6.5k. My longest trip is around 120 miles. No issues, but not the same mileage results. I was more in the 11-12 range.
I towed my 27' car-toy hauler with my 07 GT500 450 miles to the Sturgis Mustang Rally. I run about 70mph very little wind towed just fine. Make you get the best Equalizer hitch, the one with either the brake pads or the metal on metal anti-sway style. Equal-I-Zer is the best and most expensive. I Bought the brake pad style. By the way the trailer alone was a little over 8500#
I went from an 05 SD diesel to an 06 F150 5.4L and it tows my 20' enclosed car hauler just fine. It'll run down the highway at the speed limit and get 9-10 mpg doing it. The diesel only got 10-11 towing that trailer. One thing you should do if it doesn't have max payload and max towing package is add a couple of leaves to each rear spring. It definately improves stability to the level of a SD.
I have an 09 fx4 with max tow package....my first ever load was 6,000lb load from Cleveland Ohio to VA (450 miles) through the mountains and I felt very comfortable, I cruised around 75 most of the trip and averaged about 10mpg…at one point I looked down and I was doing 85 (I guess I got a little too comfortable haha)…to say the least I was extremely impressed how simple it was to make that trip with all that weight behind me
thanks for the reply's, I got to tow my kabota tractor(about 4.5K) today and have to say I'm really impressed with this F150, I hardly new it was back there. although I will have to get my trailer brakes working, the 150 doesn't have the stopping power my 250 had..
09 scab,5.4, max tow package,3.73. I added airbags and LT tires. I tow a 10000 lb fifthwheel. Been up to the lake Placid about 300 miles, and to Myrtle Beach about 850 miles. Pulled like a dream.I wouldn't do this ,but I met a guy at the Ford dealership today that pulls a 11500lb fifthwheel with a 04 F150.
