New truck :)

Picked up a 88 F250 4x4 yesterday. Runs like a champ. Shifts perfectly and fires right up. Unfortunately it comes equipped with a 5.0 and M5R2 but at least everything works unlike my F150 from the same year. Just need to replace the wiper motor and see if my warn locking hubs will swap over. Loving this truck <3

Looks like a rust free specimen. Nothing wrong with the Lil 5.0 combo....rock it til it dies then swap a 351. My 89 started it's life as a light duty f250 just like yours, the setup cracks me up.

I got a kick out of this. Maybe 1 and 3 are the result of number 2? Regardless, I really like the truck and it looks to be in good shape. You might increase gas mileage 2-3 MPG by ditching that giant bug buster.
Congratulations on the new truck. Sandy

Yeah we don't really get rust here in Colorado, but the chevies around here do (lower quality of course) lol. I think I'm ganna black her out. I don't mind the 5.0 but I had issues with the M5r2 in my f150. Maybe it was because the P.O. didn't give a damn about it. This one however is great all around really happy with this buy. Swapping over my new parts over to this one next weekend. Alternator, wiper motor, oil pressure gauge and idler pulley that goes in place of a.c. compressor

What's wrong with the manual hubs that are in it now? IIRC, the OEM hubs, although marked FORD, were made by Warn.

Good find; decent rubber too. Every truck we've bought has desperately needed tires.

That stripe is soooo '80s.

Personally if everything works as is, then I would just pull the new parts off the other truck and just save them for spare parts. No sense tearing stuff off if it still works fine. But that's just what I would do if it was mine.

Nice looking truck though, these are getting hard to come by rust free.

+1; why open up something that's working?

I'll pull the new ones off and set them aside. I have a question about the old truck as well. If I pull off the locking hubs can it still be driven? I want to make it a derby truck for next year. Got a buddy who has a 2wd and gave me the roll cage off his

The hub assembly center the axle shafts, so it won't work unless you pulled the axleshafts.

Oh okay. I'll have to take them out then also quick question, am I suppose to feel every bump in the f250 because of the stronger suspension. It just feels stiffer

Yeah the spring rate is much higher and the stock setup is not very good. Need aftermarket springs (which will include lift of ~2.5"+) to make it ride better.

With my 250HD, I can run over a dime and will be able to tell if it was heads or tails!!!! A few hundred pounds in the tool boxes in back settles thing down though....

Darn so just replacing the shocks isn't enough, I guess a little lift couldn't hurt

Help that Mazda transmission live a long life by "Keeping your hand off of the shifter" when you're not changing gears. Trust me, that's a quick way to wear out the shift forks.

Nice score on the new truck, by the way. With your leaf front suspension, I would suggest you learn to live with the ride. Air pressure in the tires has a major influence in the ride. By law, repair shops and tire stores here in Kommiefornia have to air up your tires to max pressure on the door sticker. My truck, 55psi front and 80psi rear is like no suspension at all. There are links on the Intarwebs to explanations on how to adjust tire pressure by chalking your tires and driving in a straight line for a ways. I run 40 front, 38 rear when I'm not hauling something.

Enjoy your new-to-you truck!
