so when did you look up the number atwhich they started making the F threes
thanks for the information about some of the differences it looks like with the 17 inch wheels xcetra and it came with a F3 badge but it's probably an F3 but I was just wondering about according to the title number what it was
so when did you look up the number atwhich they started making the F threes
The split was 110,141 so your truck could be either or both depending on how you look at it. They made F3 Y models from the beginning (January 1948), just started to designate F2's separately as D models at the number above.
Keep in mind that prior to 1948 these distinctions didn't exist. There were half-ton pickups and 1 ton (and larger) trucks. No such thing as a 3/4 ton.
With the new models arriving in '48 Ford started to split things up. There are quite a few parts on the 48's that are shared with '47 and earlier trucks. So it's not an exact science.
Even after 110,141 an F2 and F3 could be built to the same specs by ordering the options that were standard on the other model. About the only difference you could count on was tire/wheel size that Stu explained. And those could have been changed over the years IF they could find wheels to fit over the 14" brake drums.
thanks again for the information. It looks like it doesn't make a difference as far a parts ordering so I will move on, interesting though. I know how you guys like pictures so here are some after some cleanup/mockup
Well I guess I am well and truly hooked I just made a deal to buy a parts truck for 500 no title but has most of the missing parts I need will post pictures as soon as I get it home. any market for flat head v8 parts?
Well sometimes here in Oregon the whole truck costs the same as just the cab. I couldn't see why the pparts truck was on creigslist for a month before I called the guy either. no paper work I guess. I will probably drag it home this weekend.
