New to the 3v

Just got a 05 f150 supercrew 5.4 and after 13 years of owning a 98 5.4 , so not too familiar.
Has 172,000 on it and just asking is theit a general consensus on oil weight to use and filter brand?
Not to re ask a common question but maybe quick couple
answers. I have read and read and now it's a blur.
5w20? Motorcraft filter best?

I have been using 5w-20 Motorcraft Synthetic Blend and FL820S filter since I got my truck with 52xxx miles on it, I'm now a little over 191000 miles, and it's still quiet as can be, except for the usual injector ticks. Stay on top of maintenance, Ford calls for every 5000 miles for oil changes, I usually try to get it around 4500, just so I do it with time to spare.

I run 5w30 high mileage pennzoil in mine with the motorcraft filters, been running that was for 80,000 miles and haven't had any major issues with it.

i run 5w30 because it seems to have quieted the phaser noise quite a bit, and its still running on those original cam phasers.

whatever oil you end up choosing, KEEP the motorcraft filters, there's a check valve that keeps oil in the heads to prevent nasty valve noise on startup.

Personally I have always used Motorcraft Syn. Blend in my 3V since I've had it. I alternate weights, using 5w30 in the summer months and 5w20 for the remainder of the year. Definitely stay with the 820S filter.
