What are the differences between a 2017 F250 FX4 Super Duty Platinum and a 2017 F250 4X4 Super Duty Platinum? I'm sure it's the options but I just can't identify what those option differences are.

FX4 is just the Off-Road option package, available on every trim level. It includes Hill Descent Control, Rancho shocks, and t-case/fuel tank skid plates.
-Shocks (Rancho "branded" terrible shocks that frequently fail)
-Skid plates (cheap plastic fuel tank skid plate and thin aluminum flimsy skid plate for transfer case area)
-"FX4" stickers on rear fenders instead of "4x4" stickers
-Hill Descent Control (button on dash allows you to use the trucks brakes and ABS system to crawl down steep off-road grades without touching foot brake...pirated from Land Rover when Ford owned them...but not useful to most owners)
It's a relatively cheap package, but I think its a ridiculous pretense of added off-road capability that doesn't exist...so I passed.

I was wondering why the shocks look different than most shock on stock trucks.
I didn't order the FX Pack but ordered the Skid Plates 100.00 and they are both Steel, Gas tank is Plastic but Both plates are fairly thick steel according to my magnet. Maybe if you order separate there different.

I missed seeing that option when I ordered, I didnt want the FX4 but thought id get the skid plates later, at least the one under the fuel tank, If you want skid plates order them with the truck for $100 the fule tank skid alone after the fact is $300
I didn't see you could order the skid plates separately either or I would have done that instead of the FX4. Oh well, at least I get overpriced stickers and downhill decent I will never use

Tyler, we've cleared this up in the past buddy but you must have forgotten. The skids are hearty steel not cheap plastic or aluminum. If I remember correctly, you're thinking they are the same as the F150 which they are not...
PS: If anyone in the North East needs a fuel tank skid, mine will be for sale soon when I install my Titan tank.

They aren't actually Rancho shocks. They are Ford shocks painted Rancho colors with a Rancho sticker on them and as some have pointed out, are complete garbage.

What's funny is that the same company actually does make all of them. Tenneco makes the Ford standard black shocks, the Ford fake Rancho shocks, and makes the real Rancho shocks for... Rancho. (They also make other major brands like Monroe.) However, Ford has their Rancho "branded" shocks specced and built for them without any involvement from Rancho. They just pay Rancho to use their name. I think it's a bum deal for Rancho because while they get their check, all the failed Ford Rancho shocks probably cost them a ton of business because most people don't know there is a difference....
