I just changed my oil and I used Valvoline Premium Blue 5W40 oil. Not a fan of Valvoline but it was the only CJ-4 I could find, I got it at NAPA Auto Parts.I am sure if you called AMSOIL they would probably be able give you good advice.
Thanks for the input guys this is my first diesel and didn't really know what direction to go with oil. This has always been a awesome site for knowledge and information.
I have a slightly different opinion on this. I personally use amsoil in my truck. It meets and exceeds all Ford requirements (new and old). Though it is not on their approved list, it does meet the requirement for the new Fords. Amsoil also carries a replacement warranty of it's own. If you experience an engine failure due to an oil issue, they will replace your engine for you.
My experience with amsoil has been pretty in depth and i've had several situations that has caused me to trust amsoil and to use it exclusively in everything I own. I don't hesitate for a second to put amsoil in my truck.

Just my $.02. Everyone has their own opinion.
I think that this is great. I am glad that you found something that you like.
I'm an AMSOil Preferred Customer (not quite a dealer, but not paying retail either). I've bought a lot of oil over the past 10 years from them. At this time, there is no way I'm putting AMSOil in my 6.7L engine. Everywhere else, sure. I'm just not willing to take a chance on this whole CK-4 thing.
I got a question regarding this new CK rating stuff. So I know it's not recommended by Ford, but on Amsoil's website, their oil shows CK-4/CJ-4 along with all their other specs. It also shows the Ford WSS-M2C171-F1 spec. So should we stay away from anything because it says CK, or should we feel ok with seeing the CK as long as it has the Ford spec?
Without looking at the AMSOil site/spec I'm going to throw out that AMSOil says that they adhere to CJ-4/CK-4/WSS-M2C171-F1/Blah/Blah/Etc. I'm likely to stay away from AMSOil for now unless they actually pass a certification for those standards.
I was curious about this so I went to here to find this:
Outstanding Protection for Ford* Powerstroke* Engines
Ford Motor Company recently released its position on the upcoming new API CK-4 and FA-4 diesel oil specifications, claiming it will only recommend diesel oils that meet the Ford WSS-M2C171-F1 specification or oils formulated specifically for the previous API CJ-4 specification.
Questions have arisen regarding why Ford would condemn use of CK-4 and FA-4 products in its Powerstroke engines. According to Ford Service Lubricant Technical Expert Ron Romano, “6.7L engines tested on CK-4 and FA-4 formulations had experienced valve train wear not encountered with CJ-4 formulations. The CJ-4 formulations in question contained more than 1,000 parts per million phosphorus, an effective antiwear ingredient, while the CK-4 and FA-4 formulations were below that threshold. As a result, Ford declared that it has wear concerns about the use of CK-4 and FA-4 formulations with less than 1,000 ppm phosphorus in new and older Ford engines.”
All current AMSOIL synthetic diesel oils contain a boosted level of wear protection above the requirements set by the Ford specification. The new AMSOIL Signature Series Max-Duty Synthetic Diesel Oil and Heavy-Duty Synthetic Diesel Oil formulations [that launched 6 February 2017] also contain boosted levels of wear protection, and they carry the Ford WSS-M2C171-F1 specification.
AMSOIL customers can be well-assured that all Ford Powerstroke engines, no matter the model year, are well-protected when using AMSOIL synthetic diesel oils.
But some data or testing as evidence would be nice, not just their word as they are not on Ford's list yet.

In my opinion, since Amsoil shows the current requirement by Ford, if there was a failure of an engine and Ford stated it was due to oil, that would land Amsoil in the hot seat to replace the motor. Their only course of action would be to replace the engine or face a lawsuit and the negative publicity that follows.
I've spent time and money testing Amsoil on the older trucks that I have had (oil sampled every 5k miles) and i've never had a concern to run my oil to the limits of the amsoil specs (25,000 miles on the upper end diesel stuff - Except for my 6.4 with the fuel dilution issues, so I changed at dealer interval). I've had other cars (not diesel) that I ran Amsoil in for 10+ years. Friends with the same cars used other brands and when we did engine tear downs, the carbon build up and sludge was present in their and nothing was present in mine. These were show cars with minimal mileage and maintained frequently. Now maybe I am missing something that my friends weren't doing that I was, but that was my experience.
My other experience involved flat towing my Jeep TJ 250 miles in 4 low at 70+ miles an hour. It blew the rear seal right out of the transfer case and the transfer case was bone dry when I got home. I replaced the seal, refilled the oil, and am still running the transfer case with no other repairs to this day. I have no heat whining, nothing. That was 10-12 years ago. Again, just my experience.
The funny thing about oil is everyone has an experience with one that develops their opinions and their brand loyalty. For me, Amsoil is the one that has treated me right through the years I've used it. I know people that swear by Royal Purple or those that swear by Delo or others. For whatever reason, people tend to be a little less moveable in their mindset on oil. That's fine. For me, I trust Amsoil 100% and have no issues running it in my truck. It is a quality product and a quality company. I have no doubt in my mind that if I lose a motor and Ford won't cover it under warranty, that Amsoil will step up and either A.) fight Ford on their determination for the cause of the failure or B.) They will replace my motor.

Appreciate your comments about your long experience with Amsoil. I never ran it but have run Mobil 1 and Redline. I guess you have a point there that they wouldn't put up Ford's spec if they didn't test their oil to see it's up to Ford's numbers. They had to have contacted Ford about this. I'm not bashing Amsoil but I wonder why they are not on the list yet. So you currently have Amsoil in your new Ford?

Yes, I changed my truck to Amsoil the day I got it. I only drive 7-10k miles a year, so I change my oil annually with Amsoil. I have not yet changed my differentials or transmission over to it, but will be doing so this summer.
The only negative issue I've seen with Amsoil is related to my Jeep's differentials. I used their gear oil and it was too slick and caused problems with my selectable locker. The clutches inside it would slip and it functioned as a open unit instead of a limited slip (that was with the additive as well). However, the locking feature worked properly. It was just the unlocked limited slip that had issues. I might not change my Ford to the gear oil for that reason as I don't want to mess with the locker unit in the back.
