They're not all the same. PCM code chart is here - PCM Codes - 1994-1997 Power Stroke FAQ . You can always try junkyards (car-part.com), eBay junkyard sellers, and the classifieds sections here and on the other truck forums.

Um, the PCM controls the engine. The truck has nothing called an ECM.

That's the IDM not your PCM or ECM as you call it. It manages your injectors

Well, it kinda does say IDM on it.... And it looks, from the goop around the cover edge, that it was opened up at some time, quite possibly due to water getting in it (common issue, thanks to its location). So it may have failed before. If that's what you need, you're in luck. Since it's just a dummy electronic device (basically boosts 12VDC to 120VDC and delivers it to an injector when/as directed by the PCM), and not a computer per se, it has no "programming" that's specific to the year, model, etc. of truck. ANY IDM from a 7.3 PSD, from '94.5 to '03, will work.

That picture is mine from a spare I have. I think all of them have the goop on them, at least the ones I've seen and none of them were ever opened.

Yeah I have two idms that have never been opened that have the same gray goop on them.

I got one rebuilt by all computer or something it died in a few months but they sent me another one and I had it in 2 days. I purchased a spare to keep in the truck for next time and switched their new one in since it has a lifetime warranty. It's cheap insurance along with the spare ipr, and icp I carry in the truck as well as auto enginuity.

I think any idm with the correct voltage will work right? The "idm-100"

From what I've read, the number following IDM is not the voltage; they all fire at 120VDC. I vaguely recall my '95 EVTM stating 120VDC, even though both our IDMs say IDM-100. In any event, an IDM from a later model 7.3 PSD will work.

Hmm, the grey goop info is intriguing; now I gotta go look at ours.....
