Who has what, and why you think, they're the best out there?
I've had AAA for 20+yrs, but last June, did me in. My policy expires son, and looking for an alternative. Reason being, my PS went out(blew the line) and they could not accommodate both my truck and my extra 2 bodies with me. Not a truck in site for already a few hrs, but yet, I was in Costa Mesa. Not like I was stuck in the middle of BFE......and, to make matters worse, I had to call my bro to haul me and the wife n daughter, home, while AAA used a little flatbed, single cab...so much for my 200.00 policy coverage
I believe that the Good Sam club offers programs that fit RV type situations better that 3A. I don't have their rad coverage but I get the notices all the time. They claim to be ready to tow both truck & trailer (if that is the case) to your destination of choice. Within reason of course.
We have Good Sam which covers our 4 vehicles and the 5th wheel trailer in the event we need them. I have used it one time when the starter on my 02 Mercury Sable w/247,000 miles crapped out and the service was good.
They will move the trailer to the nearest safe/designated campground and take the vehciles to the nearest authorized service location like a dealer or something. So, you know your truck won't go to Billy Bob's Black Smoke and Tow Mirrors with Stacks, on Stacks mechanic shop.
Excellent guys..dig'n what I'm reading. However, in the event that, god forbid, I crap out with the trailer, say..125 miles from home, will they tow both my truck n trailer back to my home, where I can perform the repair?
No/probably not. Chances are there will be an "authorized" place to take each of them closer to your location than your home. You can of course pay the difference to have them towed to your home, but it will be at regular tow truck rates.
The one instance I had to use Good Sam for my Sable paid for 50% of the cost I paid for a 5 year membership. Money well spent so far in my opinion.
That's what I was afraid of, Sous.. Most likely, I'm at the very most, 350 miles from home, and that's only 1 time a year(mammoth)...now, looking at their benefits, 1 of them being 80.00 bucks, which WILL take rv/trailer to home, however, still leaves the truck in limbo... Probably a call in the morning will hold the answers....i remember another roadside that was mentioned not long ago???
That's one good thing about AAA, they'll tow you a certain amount of miles one way. Good Sam probably has their good offers as well but since I do all of my own work I don't want to be towed to the nearest repair facility.
AAA had a limit on how far they would tow the camper or truck from what I recall. Where as Good Sam will tow both to the nearest authorized locations. This is usually a campground of some sort for the trailer and a dealership for the truck.
It does not matter if the dealer is 300 miles away, they will tow it that far.
Our biggest concern was the trailer being taken care of, so we did a lot of research and found good and bad reviews for all recovery companies. In the end, we took Good Sam due to their claims and price for the 5 year plan. Before that, we had been with AAA for 15 years, but their service had left a lot to be desired in our experience.
With respect to your guys' opinions..i went back to AAA for another year. Bumped up to the Premiere with RV... This should cover all my trips to/from the desert, river and my trip to mammoth in July, if need be, without them hesitating on where to take the disabled....my home!
No worries man, you have to make the best decision for your and your family. I hope you never need AAA, but if you do I hope they come through for you.
