Differential break-in

As long as the preload on the differential bearings is set correctly and the backlash is adjusted correctly at assembly, there will be virtually no movement of those dimensions (especially with no load). I'd suggest there are a myriad of reasons why Ford want light towing in the first 1000 miles, but technically the differential are set upon build and install in the truck...Come to Alberta and see the Cat 797F @4,000 hp and 1.4 million lbs of GMW and they go to work hauling 400 tons from day 1.
