The outside temperature was 62°. So it shouldn't have been from an extreme temperature event. However, the window was facing the sun, and it was right about noon. When I picked the bits and pieces out of the frame, they were hot to the touch.
Took me about 2 hours to sweep up all the pieces and vacuum what I could. A whole bunch of the bits fell inside the door.
Made an appointment through our insurance company to get the glass replaced on May 10.
Ford warranty does not cover side glass past 12 months.
If in an emergency and the antenna has the little ball on the end of it snap the antenna off and hold it to the window. Pull the tip of the antenna back and let it slap the window, 9 out of 10 time its will shatter. Seat belt cutter is another must have for emergency too.
The glass could have had a hairline fracture in it you didn't even notice, and the pressure blew it out. glad no one was in the seat at the time!
Pretty standard for firefighters involved in rescue scenarios.
We had other tools but this was small and quick.
Never thought that a center punch would work for that. Good to know. The thing that I've seen is a combination window breaker and seat belt cutter. Pretty cheap at $6.

Ford most likely won't warranty it do to there is no way to prove if it was a defective glass since it is in so many pieces. Which is no ones fault. Ford is touchy on glass. They changed their policy and length of warranty on glass. Windshields went from 1 yr to 6 months on new vehicles.
Like others, I'd say look out for a sniper, albeit one that has poor aim
Sorry to hear this, I'd imagine it will most definitely be an insurance claim, never heard of a manufacturer stepping up on a window warranty like this.
???? As I said the front Door window is laminated like a windshield. Hence why it is called Acoustic Glass.

Well, I'll be damned. Don't get all indignant now.

I think of the hundreds of times I've been on vehicle extrications and I've never seen that.
However, I have been retired for almost 5 years so things change in the vehicle world and I see things have changed in the automotive world.
Heck, as soon as it's daylight here I am going to look at what I have in my truck!
Been running around with a taped-up hunk of cardboard in the hole for the last week. The appointment with the glass place is not until next Wednesday. I'll be happy when it's been replaced, and I hope it never happens again.
It makes me very leery about leaving the truck in any parking lot.
I can only imagine, where are you getting it replaced, Ford dealer or a glass shop?
Ford basically said "Nope. Not warranteed. Go away kid." So I called my insurance company, and they set up the appointment for me with Safelite. We've dealt with them before. They are quick, efficient, and generally don't make a mess.
