I've read/heard a lot of people say that you must purchase tunes after buying the tune. I have also seen for example an Sct x4 for $399, and then seen a Sct x4 competition series for $724 and it says that it is dpf delete capable.
I am not looking for too much horsepower (aka custom tunes). I am basically looking to not have a CEL after removing the DPF/EGR.
My two questions are this-
Is it true that the competition series tuner is delete capable right out of the box without purchasing additional tunes?
If I'm just wanting a delete capable tuner straight out of the box, what are my other options/what would y'all recommend?
There are no tuners being manufactured any longer that are delete capable off the shelf without custom tunes. The vendor of your choosing may include custom tunes on the tuner already installed, or they may email you the tunes for you to install on the tuner. It really depends on the vendor.
I used Rudy's for the SCTx4 and like it. There are plenty of other options though. All of them will be custom tunes though for '13 and up.

So basically they buy them from the manufacturer and put the tunes on them, and them sell them to us buyers? As in I wouldn't need to download anything?
So vendors buy them form the manufacturer and load the tunes on them for customers to buy? This is what I am referring to as far as coming from them and being dpf delete capable out of the box.

That is correct. The tuner isn't built delete capable like they used to be, so vendors write custom tunes for them. Some vendors load the tunes for you, while others will send them to you for you to load after you receive the hardware.
