Does the OE trans cooler work?

. I just got a real small travel trailer single axel. I think I have the towing package. 3.73ls, frame mounted hitch lights and tranny cooler.?? Question is do I need an aftermarket cooler? I do not tow in OD

Naaah, they always stick in stuff that isn't needed, so later owners can rip it out and say they're "simplifying it"

My 1997 Tow Package has the receiver, 7 pin socket, auxiliary ATF to air trans cooler on passenger side, trailer tow fuse box underhood, power steering fluid to air cooler on the driver side, engine oil to A/F cooler on the side of the block, and I might be forgetting something else.
No other cooler needed.

If it's shifting constantly in and out of overdrive you want to run in D but if it pulls OK in overdrive run in overdrive. Bigger coolers are OK but generally not needed unless you're towing something stupidly big.

If it has the tow pkg, look under the truck lower front of radiator. Should be a small radiator about 8"x10" radiator with cooler lines going into the bottom and back to the transmission.
Should be good to go.

I pull a dual axle 21' about 5k all over Colorado,
have yet to put a temp guage, hasn't been a problem.
PO must have burried it in mud and packed the cooler, I got in there with a makeshift water blaster , blew out a bunch of dirt, not sure I'm going to put a guage now.
Not pulling in OD is correct.
