Montana was always a little oddball. They never fully signed on to the 55 mph speed limit deal. Oh, they had the signs up allright. But it was widely ignored, and the fine was $5, payable on the spot, for "wasting energy". In Eastern MT, and Wyoming and SD etc, the distances between towns are vast. 55 is like standing still, and impossible to maintain.
I went to Red Lodge last yr to ride the Beartooth with some friends, so didn't get through most of the state like I usually do. I have heard that when the interstate speed limits went to 80, that the fines and enforcement went up. IDK if that's correct, but what's been floating around in the LD motorcycle community.
Oh great... Now yer saying I need license plates to drive to town?
Only if you get caught. One time I bought the new tabs for my dd and decided to leave them on the dash and see if I got pulled over. I drove that truck until the registration was due again the next year without putting them on.
I always pick up new tabs at the dmv in Anacortes when I get off the ferry. Last month I picked them up for my wife's car too because she was going off island a few days later.....Last fall when I lost my duals and brake drum on a divided highway I was glad I had them current. We don't have state troopers on the island. They seem rather serious.....
I've slipped through the Kaliforny fruit ****'s, coming over from Kingman after you cross the dam, and had no license plates. They didn't notice. Since license prices doubled here in 2 years, I quit licensing most of my trailers and have went YOM on all my old stuff.
