I was wondering how accurate the torque app is on a 96? I know that's pretty primitive OBD2 so I'm not sure how much to rely on the readings.. Figure if the ecu is sending it, it must be correct.
My boost is really low, like hardly building past 3 lbs. If that's an actual number, I need to correct it soon because I've got a long trip over the pass coming up with a loaded trailer!
Thanks for the reply. I have a 3 gauge set I've been meaning to install, might have to get to it soon. It doesn't really feel like I'm that low on boost though. Looked around and couldn't find any noticeable leaks, although everything is a little damp with oil.. Might need to go through a few things up top here soon.
you don't notice boost leaks, you test it with a compressor and a fernco cap with a are line fittin on turbo inlet and spray dish soap and hunt for bubbles
leaf blower on exhaust to test the uppies and turbo flange with dish soap hunting for bubbles
A small leak can make a difference.
I could not get past 10 PSI when I bought it. After all my work I was able to get 20.
I had low fuel pressure, bad injector orings and turbo to y oring leak. Barely get above 65 MPH and after my work it will do over 75 now and haul 10k fine.
Bout a year and a half ago I did uvch both sides, injector o rings, new fuel pump, rebuilt fuel bowl, straight piped and a 6637, and a TS 6 position. It'll haul 10k easy at 70+. Makes me wonder how much better it'll be building boost properly! Hope I can find the leak.
Under what conditions? Just revving it up in the driveway, you'll never build meaningful boost. You only see the real numbers when under load.
I turned off OD and was cruising around, getting into it pretty good. Figured that would be enough to build it up a little, maybe I'll give it another go to be sure.
Found part of the problem! The clamp that fits the turbo and the y-pipe together had cracked, and wasn't allowing it to tighten down. Fixed that, was able to build up to 14 lbs now. Much better but still not quite there. I'll probably poke around it a little more this weekend, thanks for the input.
