So I ordered the sending unit and they sent this photo of what I bought. Fingers crossed that this is the correct one.

Also, any ideas about a replacement filler neck or am I going to have to fabricate one from exhaust bends and straight hose sections?

Here's a photo from post #1.

Sorry, im not sure which fill hose fits a flatbed.

Do be sure the inner concentric tube is properly seated at both ends.

From the sounds of it, the hose I need, E1TZ-9047-T is NLA.

Any ideas about that one?

Also, I haven't inspected it yet, but does the vent tube from the old tank transfer over to the new one?

The vapor tube and rollover valve should go right in.
you might want a new grommet if yours to looking rotten.

Do you mean the vent tube inside the fill tube?

Yes, the vent tube, the one that goes down inside the fill neck on the tank and runs inside the fill hose towards the gas cap.

Any ideas about what to do about another fill hose? I thought that I could make one from exhaust tubing and use straight fill hose sections as couplers, but I really don't want to.

Ii really don't know.
Maybe I'd bite the bullet and go down to the marina.
I know they have fuel rated hose in various diameters.

(anything for a boat cost 3x as much as normal)

Update:

The sender I bought appears to be identical to the old one and the float arm sweep was from 10 to 70 ohms. It fit nicely into the Spectra tank after I bent a couple of the tabs for the lock ring just a bit. The new tank is in the truck.

I was a little concerned about how tightly the fittings for the fuel lines felt, but they are installed correctly, I just figured they would be a little more tight on the output pipes for the sender.

I think I'm going to reuse the old fill hose since they are NLA. This one isn't new, but it's better than nothing.

Next step is to remove the power steering pump so I can install new rubber hoses for the transition from the hard fuel lines to rubber at the fuel pump.

First off, let me say thanks to everyone who has taken the time to help me with this project. I wouldn't have been able to get it going again without the help.

The fellow who owns the truck was my father's best friend growing up. They met when they were 7 years old. I lost my father back in '97, so it's been nice getting re-acquainted with someone who grew up with him. Hearing all of the stories about my father and his family from when he was a youngster has been a real hoot.

I started the truck today with the new tank and sender and it runs! It started right up.

The only other item that seems to need some attention is the power steering pump. It appears to have leaked quite a lot of fluid all over the rubber hoses at the fuel pump and the lower radiator hose is covered as well. I'm going to replace these items with new rubber, but what's the best option for the pump? It's got about 1/4" of play on the shaft.

Thanks.

Good to hear you got it running.

Also nice you have someone who knew dad and can fill in the blanks.

For that pump and play you have 2 options.
Junk yard for a user one that may go bad in a short time or not?
Get a rebuilt one from parts store. If it goes bad hope it is still under warranty and turn it back in for another.

I think I'm going to try a seal kit on this one. I looked at the reman unit at the parts store and it also has a good bit of shaft play in/out. If a seal kit doesn't sort it out, I'll get a reman one.

Here is a link which might help you decide which way to go, regarding the PS pump: https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/1...ering-box.html

The thread may not be the one I was hoping for as the OP ran into some frame issues and the discussion centered around that. Anyway, the Redhead steering boxes come highly recommended by several forum members.
