Bought a used Expedition 2005 a couple of weeks ago and want to put in a bigger subwoofer in the back. Not a fancy build or anything, just something simple. I got everything I need, and I am planning on wiring it all up this weekend. I have been reading various threads online about where to run the wires, but haven't found a satisfying answer.

I was thinking of lifting up the carpet and maybe running it there somehow (maybe there's a canal under there?). The cables need to partially reach the stereo (I'm installing a new one of those as well since the one I got doesn't have aux/Bluetooth) and partially reach some battery connectors (haven't figured that out yet). Thought I would ask here before I begin tearing my car apart just in case anyone got a good solution already?

By the way, I bought a well-shielded RCA cable so I'm fine running it along the power.

 

Pop off the floor trims in the passenger doorways, the passenger kick plate and the passenger B-pillar. Run the wiring between the body and the carpet along that side.

 

Thanks I will look into that! Sounds like a good way to do it. I'm guessing I can just pop the floor trims and the kick plate and then just push the wires behind the B-pillar? Or do I actually have to pop that one too? Is it possible without removing the seat?

Looks like I maybe can push my wires from the back where it's uncovered and have them come out at the feet of the front passenger seat. Not sure how to get them through to the battery, the existing holes are used and well-sealed. I could probably drill a hole through one of the existing used grommets (there is a big one which has a lot of unused surface). But I'm gonna wait and see how it looks behind the stereo first, should be a hole there somewhere. But I'll do that tomorrow when I have more time.

You can unscrew and remove that black metal plate, that's where the factory harness runs. If it's not too thick, it will fit in there. If you have thick and serious wiring going back, you may have to run it elsewhere with more space. I'd perhaps run it under the center console and under the carpet to the back in the middle, and try to find a solution to hide the bump in the carpet.

 

I tried unscrewing the black metal plate but it was attached to some other metal plate that seemed to go beneath the cables, as in, I wasn't able to pull it up once it was loose. I'm gonna make a second attempt, because I'm pretty sure I would fit all the cables there. Otherwise I'll investigate the middle console.

 

The metal thing is a clip, I removed that plate to run the video cable to my rear backup camera. Just have to yank it up carefully so you don't damage the metal clip.

Ended up running half of the wiring under there and the other half under the center console (by pinching it in under) to the amp that I placed under the front passenger seat with some glued-on Velcro. Looks really clean!
