Engine Squeal
Some background: 400 in a 1969 F100, been in storage for about 20 years. I changed the oil, and reprimed the system until there was oil lubricating valve train through the push rods. Got it fired up and noticed a very loud squeal from engine. One by one, I unhooked the following to identify the source: power steering pump, alternator, fan/water pump. Squeal still there, unfortunately. Could this be a cam or crank bearing? I'm hoping its not something major but am not confident at this point.
I read where bad vacuum lines can cause a squeal, but this noise follows the RPM range - gets louder with more RPMs. Its really tough to narrow down exactly where it is coming from, but it appears to be the front of the engine.

A friend had a crate motor from a national supplier and his squealed at low r p m's it was a chevy but still same. Turned out to be cam bearings and maybe cam the well know company would not do a thing the only good that came out of this he swore off chev's if he would have kept the truck he was going to put in a 302ford I wish that had happened.

awesome you fixed the problem and than finished off the thread with the solution. So many times I have done a search, got to the end of a thread and no solution. Its a real bummer! A vacuum leak you say, must have been one hell of a leak to sound like that.
