Tailgate access panel.

I'm trying to locate a regular access panel so I can get rid of my tailgate pole and the plastic cover that goes with it. Prices are crazy ($300+) and availability seems to be nil. I did this to my '11 SD and I think I paid $60 from Tasca. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Do a search for a

TrailFx tg99x

It's a tail gate cover, when I got my pick up used, the tail gate panel was beat to he!!. This cover fits perfect, looks great and tough as nails.

It should install even with your panel missing. I got mine for less than $35 including shipping.

With the ribbing, I think it'll be plenty strong even with the open slots from the missing panel. I am NOT paying $350 for a piece of tin.

It attaches with 6-8 existing screws/holes. No drilling required. Instructions had you using exsisting screws but with the thickness of the cover, my screws only caught by a thread or so, so I bought little longer screws.

If you want something to cover the void, just get a piece of thin aluminum plate, trim to fit, then cover with protective cover.

Sorry, yes I have it installed. I added some drywall screws (the ones made for metal studs) around the lower perimeter to keep it from lifting.I have the pull-out step so the plastic cover wasn't a perfect fit, but with a little rasping and some different mounting screws I have a good fit. Its strong enough to leave the access cover out, but in full sun/heat it starts to warp and heave due to the expansion of the plastic. It's fine for now but I'm keeping my eye out for a metal panel (at a real-world price) then I'll shoot the tailgate in Rhino to match the rest of the bed. Thanks for steering me onto that. It's a good solution until I find the metal panel, If I ever do.

Glad it helps out, even if just a temp solution. At least didn't cost a bundle and may be able to resale on craigslist or similar.

I too, felt the bottom needed some screws, I pre drilled the cover with 4-5 even spaced holes if I need to add some screws later.

I haven't noticed any heat wrapping in mine, wander if it has any thing to do with bottom screws not allowing it to "stretch".

I actually had the same thought on the plastic being captured by the screws, so either we're both geniuses or.....

The factory OEM panel was about $40 and utilized the same holes. Quick coat of paint and a tailgate mat and it was done.

I purchased from my Dealer about 2 years ago. I guess I lucked out.

Cheapest I see now is about $300.

I'm sorry I got people spun up.

Could get diamond plate, cut to spec. Wouldn't cost much.
