That won't even get the tuner to load the $150 tune you need. Or the other $150 FICM tune or tuner... let see, were at $1000 just for the tuner (s) and tunes.
And we haven't even talked about go-fast parts yet. Better call the treasury department, you'll need a special run of those for the "go faster" truck.
Just do what our overlords do, get a real fancy printer and create them out of thin air!
Did I say that?!
Chris. The variable geometry turbo (VGT) we have on our trucks is a bit of an odd bird. As someone mentioned before, slapping it to the floor can be disappointing, with some practice you'll figure out how to get as fast of a take off as possible.
I saw some of your other post and will say with the EGR delete and straight pipe on an 03 it should do pretty good for such a heavy truck, although neither one of these mods helps with accelerating from a standing start.
I don't think the silencer ring just comes out on the 03 turbos but they come out pretty easily with a Dremel tool. I don't think there is much power to be had doing this, just maybe a little more noise. They (the 03 model) were a little different in the housing and the compressor wheel and were a little louder from the factory already.
Tunes are the way to go if you want a big increase but you need studs if you want to "go big" on the tunes and some will say ANY tunes. I suspect given the mileage, the first order of business may be a new set of injectors if they are still the originals. That is of course just a guess.
These aren't race trucks but considering the weight, if your truck doesn't make you think "Wow" every once in a while, something isn't up to snuff on the basic factory set up and aftermarket upgrades aren't going to fix it or cover it up.
Grab a ScanGauge or a phone app and check some numbers to see what's happening under the hood and help decide what to do next. Lots of help here on this site and a good bunch of guys.
P.S. Do us all a favor and skip the "rolling coal" stuff.
When I did the delete I thought I might have noticed a slightly quicker take off, but that might have been my imagination. Where I unequivocally noticed my 6.0 take off without tubo lag was when I loaded custom tunes from Gearhead. Takes off just like a gasser. I don't think I could ever go back to stock tune.
