Rotted to hell and back. Ford needs to do something!!!
so I noticed a issue with a little bubbling in my paint on the passenger side cab corner. Turns out the problem was way more extensive. I took it in to get fixed at a local shop cus ford didn't want to know anything about it. The body guy says it has been rotting from the inside out and is most likely caused by the leak I had in my third brake light which was covered under warranty a couple years ago. Any thoughts?
That's incredible! No older than the truck is it should not be that bad even if something leaked. I agree, Ford SHOULD FIX it! Maybe they went to an aluminum body cuz they don't know how to make steel last more than 5 years.
i spoke with fords customer care line today. they don't really go beyond the black and white that is laid out in their 5 yr corrosion policy. it is pretty obvious that this has been a problem inside the truck where the eyes could not see. is there any ford representatives that look at special circumstances or unusual problems that would be able to help with something like this? i think we all can agree that a truck this new should not look like this. especially for one that as not been abused (constant towing, off-road use, exposure to winter) and has been garage kept in a southern climate for the past 2 years. any help with this issue would be appreciated.
Don't want to make you mad, but that amount of rot didn't happen over night. I would think that just during routine service (oil changes, etc), and general cleaning, the rot would have been visible much earlier.
I know this don't not excuse the fact that the leak exists in the first.
You are correct. I noticed it a little while ago but it was not as visible as you would think. I am in the military and spend time out to sea. When I got back after some time away I noticed the attached picture

Assuming the truck was washed properly, because he said it was, then it appears that his particular truck wasn't dipped properly at the factory before going to paint. There's no way that corrosion like that ought to happen so quickly. Mine has spent 4 winters in the salt belt of the country and has 112,000 miles on it and I don't have a spec of corrosion on my body anywhere.
