Wheel and tire offset

I searched and did not come up with any clear answers. I have converted my f1 to IFS and an upgraded rear so everything is 5x4.5 and is still the factory track width, The wheels I am looking at are 18x8 in the front and 20x10 in the rear with a 4.5 backspacing and a 0.00m offset. I am not worried about the overall size of the wheels just wondering if the offset and backspacing is correct. Any help would be great.

Justin, do you plan to tub the box or expand the width of the rear fenders? Offset is measured from the centerline of the wheel and backspace is measured from the inboard edge of the wheel. So, to get 4.5" backspace with 0 offset, the wheel would be 9" wide.

I try to stay out of darkside questions like this, but believe this chart might be helpful. An 8" wide rim is measured inside across the inner rim base. So "0" offset means 4" each side of the center disc (edit - more correctly, the wheel mounting surface). The backspace concept adds the width of the rear rim lip to the calculation. Rim lips generally add 1/2" to the backspace figure. So to me this set of variables does yield 4.5" of backspace on an 8" rim.

It might also be helpful to add that the stock F-1 wheels, 16" x 4.5", have .62" of positive offset. And as you go forward with this also be sure to factor the "section width" of the various tires you consider. Tire rub is as much an issue as wheel spacing. Stu
