I've recently posted on a thread, can't seem to get back to it. So one of the many issues I am having is my externally regulated alternator IS NOT working. I have checked the continuity of each wire, all good. The alternator is definitely working, when I jump a wire from stater to 12v it starts to work. It's not getting the signal to kick on and I'm curious if anyone has any suggestions. Also I recently bought a junk yard 390 and it seems to smoke on a hit and miss basis from drivers side exhaust. I'm fairly certain it's the head gasket (Hope Not) my question is if I watch the oil will it be OK for the tone being. Thanks in advance everyone!!!
I should add that I've purchased a new voltage regulator have had the alternator checked. The battery post from alternator goes to positive side of solenoid, field from alt goes to field on reg. Stater goes to stat. I'm lost on what else it could be. Faulty regulator? The Ignition slot on harness is blocked off so I'm assuming it goes hot when I turn the key thru solenoid. Thx
The ignition slot is blocked off? Regulator connectors are available from NAPA part # VRC428. As far as the smoke, is it smoke (oil) or steam(antifreeze)? A compression test should determine if it is a bad head gasket.
