Ok so I might buy this 86 f150 but I don't know if it really is an 86 it has a 300 6 in it but its fuel injected it has a 4 SPD and a 9 inch rear . I thought 87 was the first year for efi on the 300 and I didn't think trucks that new had 9 inches in them I thought it should be a 8.8 . It's a long bed 4x4 with 140xxx on it it runs and drives but needs some work the lady knows nothing about it but she wants 500$ any help would be appreciated
I would bet it's an 86 truck with the EFI motor swapped in, the body panels and 9" rear both lean towards the 80-86 body style, and the dash also looks to match the outside panels
It starts, goes, and stops. Well worth the asking price of $500 in parts alone. In my neck of the woods, I would have pulled the trigger already.
I was thinking the same thing as I paid $400 for a parts truck less doors, tail gate and motor.........oh it rolled over so the windshield & roof are NG.
My project was $800 and needed a LOT of work!

and that parts truck wheels did not fit the truck right other than so I could roll it and the pattern will not fit the project truck.

Just an extra note, but to me, any MPFI swapped 80-86 is
1) cool as anything
2) def worth $500
So I got it it's not a 300 like the lady said it was it's a efi 302 but it knocks a little it drove perfect the 40 miles home but then today I went to move it and now has a slight knock on the passenger side but still starts right up and has around 35psi of oil pressure it needs a clutch but I really don't know what to do with it now I got too many projects
Drive it and see if the knock gets louder. You can then also assess the rest of the truck and see what you have. Are your other projects 80-86 Ford pickups?
I bought a 99 Tahoe for $400 with a engine knock. Tore into it and found out the engine had been replaced and was almost like new inside. Someone had replaced the intake gasket and got a lot of crud down in the engine, it pitted the exhaust valves and packed on top of the pistons causing it to knock. New rings and bearings and had the exhaust valves ground, new gaskets and it runs as new. You never know.
If you have a mustang and are in with that crowd, you should be able to find a 302 easy to drop into that truck if you need it. Or find engine parts if you decide to rebuild it.
The noise is top end noise I think sounds like it's under the passenger side valve cover or right around there
Surgery might fix that without pulling the engine. Or it may just be a piece of dirt or sludge in one of the lifters. A oil change with a quart of rislone might take care of it after driving it a few weeks.
