I did a rear differential flush and refill on my 02 F-250 today. I put back in 75-140 full synthetic just like I was supposed to. However, when it came to putting the friction modifier in, I went to the oem clutch pack kit I have that a buddy of mine had for his truck that he gave to me since he sold his truck before he put it in. Inside that box was 3 bottles of the XL-3 friction modifier. So I thought, well 3 bottles is what it takes or they wouldn't have put 3 bottles in the kit, so I put in all 3 of them(12 ounces). Then I got to thinking, that seems like too much. So then I go looking it up on Prodemand.com(subscription website for mechanics), and it says it takes 8 ounces(2 bottles). My question is to you mechanics out there.....will having 4 ounces too much hurt anything? Do I need to suck a quart out and put back in another quart of just gear lube to dilute it down 33% from what it is now. Any opinions?
the friction modifier reduces the friction on the limited slip clutches. too much modifier make the clutches too slippery and you end up with the equivalent of on open diff.
after a fluid change I don't add any modifier, most GL5 gear lube has enough in it.
Change fluid drive to warm up oil, make a slow turn to the right and left, if there is a popping sound or chatter when turning add 2 oz of modifier drive enough to mix it in to the gear lube and do slow turns again if no popping of chatter you are done. keep adding 2 oz and repeat above until turns are smooth.

While my truck didn't come with a LSD and I installed a True Trac (no friction modifier necessary), I agree with your recommended procedure. You hit upon key points that the OP needs to know.
IMO you now have an open diff. I'd drain it and put just new oil in. You likely have plenty of F/M on the clutch plates now. If you get chatter, add a little F/M until it goes away.
