For some reason the brainiacs at ford decided it was a good idea to put this piece of **** plastic cover right under the tailgate with essentially zero clearance when the tailgate is down so if you have any dirt or small pebbles they hit the tailgate directly and cause the type of damage you see in the pic. I took that piece of plastic off and will not be putting it back on. I would recommend taking that piece of plastic off if you plan to ever do any real work with your truck.
Yeah, I would recommend it. That damage in the picture was just from hauling a load of sod and the dirt that fell in between the tailgate and the bed in the process.
Compare your light bar to the OP's picture. Is it the same shape?
Does it look like you would get the same result from grit landing on top?
I would rather buy the lights and put them in place of the plastic cover then have those scratches
I'm one of the unfortunate ones that has to use the truck as a truck. I had to take that piece off. I see what you mean kdawg.
Not only is grit and stuff going to go on top of the plastic it is going to funnel itself under the lip of the tailgate and stay there.
I looked at cutting the plastic "thinner"...thats not happening. It's like a 1/4" too thick.
Mine is staying off..it sucks.
I would be the squeaky wheel at your dealership and get Ford involved kdawg. At least try and get them to paint that.
Someone has to show them that error, and you have the proof. There's no way they can say that's your fault for using the truck as a truck.
It needs to be redesigned.
