F100 power steering

I'm about to start driving my f100 1983 300 inline 6 3 speed custom. I drive highway and wondering if I can pull the power steering pump and parts off a eighth or ninth gen truck with the same engine and bolt them on.

If you get it off a truck that is too late, you run into serpentine belts which is a whole different setup.

If you are getting a junkyard steering box, I think I would try to get one off a little Ranger pickup. They used the same box and it would have had a easier life steering a ranger rather than a full size pickup. At least try to get one from a 2wd instead of a 4x4 that has big tires on it.

I just changed my own power steering pump a few months ago, so your post got me to wondering what other trucks would have had compatible parts had I gone the junkyard route. If you go by the NAPA website, power steering pumps through 3/89 have the same part number - I don't know exactly what changed after that point, could have been conversion to metric. So to answer your question, early 8th gen trucks will work but 9th gen are too late.

For the record, a NAPA reman is only about $45...mine's working great.

Are you looking for an upgrade or an OEM replacement? A good upgrade is the E-series Saginaw pump, though the stock pump is plenty for a DD 2wd

ill keep that in mind, thanks for the info. I might just buy one instead depending on the shape of the boxes I find

My truck doesn't have ps or pb so getting someone on there is all im looking for but if that Saginaw pump is in my price range I might just get that instead.

I have no idea how much work it is to convert to PS from manual, but it would be a good time for the Saginaw upgrade if you have the funds
