The problem with painting over the chrome is it will peel. I am talking about the chrome itself from the plastic, not the paint from the chrome. If you scuff by hand you might be ok.
This has happened to mine, my dad's and a buddy now. We are ordering new parts and taking them to a chrome shop to have the chrome removed.
What I think is happening after playing around a bit. Is the heat from the friction using a rotating sander is magnified with the chrome. Then whatever make the chrome stick to the plastic is weakened. I did this lightly with a sander that had a scuff pad, then I peeled the chrome right off in chucks. Its wasn't that hard.
Just an FYI for those interested.
I will see how well they hold. The shop scuffed by hand as this was plastic parts so no machine used. If it starts to go bad, I will just reorder the black ones and have them painted. At the time I got this truck, it was fairly new released so everything was on back order. I would have to wait like a few months to get the mirror caps and door handles.
I have wondered why manufacturers put so many badges and emblems on. Makes the vehicle look busy in my opinion. Too bad the they give you an option to leave that stuff off.
can you post your headlights you changed? truck looks great!
Not sure if you were talking about me, but here they are. I have always loved vehicles with black housing headlights. The last pic has two trucks next to mine, but they have stock headlights vs. mine are black housing. These are done by a shop taking apart an OEM headlights and painting the chrome on the insides. I also swapped out my amber side light with a tinted clear one. When the lights turn on, it still glows orange.
Ordered the Fabtech 6 inch Dirt Logic 4.0 Coilover 4 link in January, just got word yesterday that all parts are in. So I'm dropping my truck off Monday and hopefully everything will be installed and done by end of next week.
Fabtech 4.0 Dirt Logic Coilover in front with 4 links
Fabtech 2.5 with remote resi in rear
Full replacement of stock leaf springs with Deavers
Firestone Air bags for rear
Fabtech 2.5 with remote resi dual steering stabilizers
22 x 12 inch American Force Elite in black wheels
38 inch Nitto Trail Grapplers
Cool, I am waiting on the 4-link 8", they keep saying it's stuck in R&D with the truck on the lift still. Maybe May they said.
Ive been waiting for this lift before I even picked up the truck back in November. I was told it was going to be Jan 2017, then Feb, the Mar, now its April. I initially wanted the 8 inch to fit 40's, but after seeing a 6 inch lift in person I felt that is good. Plus, rumors are the 8 inch will be while and I cant wait any longer. So word is, Fabtech is releasing 3 kits first and Im getting one of the three. They will then hold of on full prod till end of this year. Also, Im hearing the reason why some of the bigger names like Fabtech, Icon, Carli and BDS have not done the 8 inchers on these new SD's is because it will require a new driveshaft.
Hmm, that's strange... and even more strange that other major manufacturers have had their 8" kits out for quite awhile. And I have asked a ton of guys that have an 8 installed and they all said there wasn't any need for a new driveline.

Yeah I dont know bro, Im just so tired of waiting.
The truck on the left, what lift is that and what size wheels/tires?
Thanks so much!
