hi, anyone want to clue me in on what the current thoughts are on getting and installing a reliable sending unit?
my desires are modest: a sending unit that actually works and will continue to work over time.
the last time i tried installing a sending unit was about 20 years ago, probably from LMC truck, and it failed within a month or two. i recall checking online and many others seemed to have similar problems.
i do recall trying to track down more recent thoughts on the topic but i have been distracted and i probably could not reliably regurgitate the results of that investigation (though i have my suspicions as to at least one of the problems).
thanks for any clues in advance!
edit: found this using the search feature ("sending") with the forum narrowed down to this one (doh):
HIGH BUCK! BOB ALLEN FORD in Overland Park KS has 3 = 913-381-2999.
GREEN SALES CO. in Cincinnati OH has 5 = 800-543-4959.

OBSOLETE RELIABLE PARTS in Nashville GA has 1 = 229-686-5101.

CARPENTER NOS OBSOLETE PARTS in Concord NC has 1,480 = 800-476-9653.
I am assuming this is for your 1968 F250. Which tank we speaking of? In cab or auxiliary factory Ford frame mounted?
Sorry, yes, in-cab for my f-250 flatbed. I just don't want to get burned by buying another stock or stock-like sending unit which will fail 2 months from the time i install it.
Maybe one issue is if there is a new alternative in the market out there which is more reliable than stock, or should modify my existing and presumably stock type (eg, coat the float with some kind of gasoline resistant coating, etc).

In that case Bill assumed correctly in post #3. Buy a N.O.S. one from one of those companies he listed. You might ask them specifically when you "call" if their part really is a Genuine FORD N.O.S. part or a repop. Some places advertise an aftermarket part by the Ford part number.
i have had an LMC for 3 years with no trouble at all, in fact they are in all 3 of my trucks and work as they should. not saying that maybe im just lucky either.
I bought one of the LMC units as well and it lasted maybe 6 months. Fell apart in the tank. Found one out of an old junk truck and installed it and it has worked great. Go figure, the one that's 40yrs old works better.
