Ok so i bought an 08 6.4l and two weeks into my ownership the oil cooler started throwing codes.. so I take it in and while the cab is off I had them delete the EGR, put HPS reinforced radiator hoses, sinister coolant filter, S&B intake, 5" straight pipe, head gaskets & ARP head studs, and one of the heads needed to be replaced. I get it back and it's making a swuealing noise I take it back to them for an up pipe job. I get it back AGAIN and now it's puking coolqnt as fast as I can fill it.. what could be causing the puking? There's no EGR coolers to go bad, and it has a new head with head gaskets and studs.. what else could even make it like like this? I would think blown head gasket would be the only way it would puke? Any help would be appreciated at this point.
Sounds like they did something wrong. What did they say what they think it is?
I called them and they just told me the shop is full right now and they can't get me in yet.. but I drove the truck today and it didn't puke any but when I shut off the truck I can hear the reservoir bubbling and the coolant level rises up? I'm confused as can be on this and I'm hoping it's not another head gasket.
I think someone said that the 6.4 isn't supposed to have a thermostat. I did some looking and it seems that some people think it could be overfilled with coolant or have air trapped in the coolant system. Take a look at this thread.
I just got off the phone at the parts counter to order a degas cap.
Just so happens their tech was standing on the other side of the counter.
The Tech said that the stock caps were inadequately manufactured and could hold pressure way off the board resulting in upwards of 10 pounds more pressure than designed.
They corrected it with the new style. He said also the manufacturing date should be after 2012 on the package.
He also was burbbling about how many 6.4's come thru with leaking coolers and intrusion of seals into the oil system thru coolers because of the pressure.
Makes perfect sense to me.
Can't believe this expensive engineered engine could suffer catastrophic damage over a 12 dollar part.

ok so the puking did slow down and even stop as of yesterday but the coolantblevel stil gets lower and lower everyday and the return line in the middle of the degas bottle bubbles when I shut the truck off?? I called the shop back again today and they told me they did not check the head before putting it back on the truck.. they just cleaned it and slapped it back on.. so chances are I have a head gasket blown already.
