I have a 2012 F-250 Lariat which still has the basic radio without nav and back-up cam.
I would like to upgrade - mostly to get the back-up cam functionality.
Looking at the Ford radios, I see some significant price differences.
The actual 2012 F-250/350 radios (Bc3t 18K931 Aa Thru Ae) are offered (used) for around $700-$900.
The Al1t 18K931 Aa Thru Ad looks identical, and sells for as little as $300. Some have told me it works as well, some tell me it won't work. (The Al1t 18K931 Aa Thru Ad comes out of the 2010 F-250/350 and the Ford Edge)
Does anybody know if they are interchangeable?
And no, I will not install a separate aftermarket display somewhere.
Thank you.

You can also buy a complete aftermarket unit with the camera display integrated. If you do, make sure that you have lifetime updates on the maps.
If you're adamant about a Ford unit, check around to make sure that the harnesses from your truck will plug into the unit you're considering. Also, check to see if your truck has to have a computer flash from a dealer to make the new Ford unit work.
Personally, I don't like Ford's Sync voice functions. I don't need that anyway so I've always used aftermarket double DIN units and bought the correct wiring harnesses. No cutting and splicing and I was able to retain steering wheel controls.
Crutchfield is a good place to ask questions for aftermarket, generally speaking.
Maybe you can get some useful info with this video. I don't remember the price for that kit, but know it was more than I wanted to spend. I went with a Hopkins unit. It works and gets the job done, but sucks compared to a factory unit.
I'd like to do the same thing with my 2012 F-250 Lariat. The video posted below shows a cc3t-18k931 installed. It looks like that is a DVD player. But all of the references I've seen to this mod are being done to an XLT. My thought is my truck already has voice nav, both antennas (sirius, gps), and SYNC capability and premium audio. Maybe I don't need the whole $1800 kit with all the extra parts and can make do with just the head unit. But which dash number do I buy?
This is the unit I will be getting soon. I think it is like $1700.00. Is the Satellite Antenna for XM Radio the same as the GPS Antenna? I know I have to also buy the extension cable for the back up camera to work on this radio. I don't like the small picture in the rear view mirror
I will update on the install later. I am wondering if I also have to update the factory speakers? LOL I bet I do. LOL
Works great!!!!!!! Also purchased the extension cable so the back up camera is displayed Love it as well.
Instantiation was extremely easy
.The hardest part was removal of the old radio. That little plastic rod in the back was so jammed against the metal brace it was a pain in the butt.
A lot of cussing and bending of the frame of the old radio. finally got it.

How is the unit working? Any flaws or problems?
Thanks

Zero issues with this new radio. 100% happy customer
Installed it Jan 2021.
Not Complaining about it. The back up Camera screen that is in the rear view mirror is a lot clearer. But I am still happy with the screen on the radio, It is a lot bigger
It did take a while for the radio is be shipped though..
With the vast availability of Kenwood, Sony, JVC, etc. head units that support Android Auto, Apple Carplay, satellite radio and Front/Rear cameras, what is the benefit to using one of these factory looking units at what seems to be a much higher price?

I installed a Pioneer AVH 1550NEX radio with an separate optional camera that I installed on my license plate. It works perfect for what I need it for, which is backing up to our camper. Just make sure the camera you pick is completely waterproof. The one that came with the kit was not.
Maybe a bit off topic: but an aftermarket radio with Bluetooth..will I be able to install forscan and see it on the big screen? Otherwise some will "mirror" your cell phone, so you should be able to see the forscan that way. IMHO watching fuel pressures at full throttle while blasting AC/DC "Hell's Bells" would be fun. Like ClarkeBre said these a re nice with the OEM look, but expensive, while an aftermarket offers so much more (at least for my '06)

The Kenwood I installed a couple years ago ties in to the OBDII port and has more gauges than I could ever need. EGR, % engine load, etc. It's a pretty cool feature while towing.
