Need XM advice!
I hate to have an aftermarket unit put in, since most after market units will stick out like a sore thumb in the dash both in size and colors... and will not look "clean" like a factiry unit. Also, to get teh Ford DVD option, I need to get the Ford premium unit... which I do not want to pay for to replace...
So, in teh end, I am looking for the best aftermarket in dash-AM/FM/CD/DVD/XM unit I can buy that will look "clean" in the dash and interface with a ceiling mounted LCD screen for DVD viewing... allowing me to show DVD in teh back and play radio in the front.
I have just heard horror stories about dealer installed aftermarket units... and I do not want my new Expy to look hacked the moment I drive it off the lot.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Jeff
I installed the Delphi Skyfi in my truck:
Since there isn't any Aux-In port on the stock 6 disk in-dash changer, I had to use FM Modulation...which sounds great.
I have the same XM unit in my Explorer... and similar bracket that hooks in under the radio bezel... I like it very much... but I would just prefer it to be intrgrated in a new car.
I just saw some press releases that Ford will be making Sirius available in Sept in the Expeditions as a "Dealer installed option"... I wonder what that means? I wonder if the radio in the 2004 units will support an add on Sirius receiver and antenna that can be hidden and out of the way with full control through the factory installed radio unit, or whether that means that the dealer will just mount an add on unit with a modulator just like I can do myself...
If anyone has any mroe details I would greatly appreciate it. I would prefer to stay with XM, but I guess I could convert to Sirius if it were a nicely integrated package...
I guess it would be too much to ask, and too forward thinking, but I would love the factory radio unit to do digital AM and FM also, which will be gaining momentum in the next year or so.

It allows an aux for the CD input.
You might try this: http://www.installer.com/acc/frdfaux.html
