Need XM advice!

I am looking at buying a 2003 or 2004 Expedition. Long time Explorer owner and very happy with Ford, so Expedition is absolutely what I want. Only drawback is that I am an XM radio nut. I installed my add-on unit in my Explorer, and was looking forward to a factory built in XM in my new Expedition. Then I come to find that GM has the exclusive on XM and that there is no Ford XM option.

I hate to have an aftermarket unit put in, since most after market units will stick out like a sore thumb in the dash both in size and colors... and will not look "clean" like a factiry unit. Also, to get teh Ford DVD option, I need to get the Ford premium unit... which I do not want to pay for to replace...

So, in teh end, I am looking for the best aftermarket in dash-AM/FM/CD/DVD/XM unit I can buy that will look "clean" in the dash and interface with a ceiling mounted LCD screen for DVD viewing... allowing me to show DVD in teh back and play radio in the front.

I have just heard horror stories about dealer installed aftermarket units... and I do not want my new Expy to look hacked the moment I drive it off the lot.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Jeff

Need XM advice!

Ford has chosen to use Sirus, so don't expect any XM products from them.

I installed the Delphi Skyfi in my truck:

Since there isn't any Aux-In port on the stock 6 disk in-dash changer, I had to use FM Modulation...which sounds great.

Thanks for the reply and pics, Dave.

I have the same XM unit in my Explorer... and similar bracket that hooks in under the radio bezel... I like it very much... but I would just prefer it to be intrgrated in a new car.

I just saw some press releases that Ford will be making Sirius available in Sept in the Expeditions as a "Dealer installed option"... I wonder what that means? I wonder if the radio in the 2004 units will support an add on Sirius receiver and antenna that can be hidden and out of the way with full control through the factory installed radio unit, or whether that means that the dealer will just mount an add on unit with a modulator just like I can do myself...

If anyone has any mroe details I would greatly appreciate it. I would prefer to stay with XM, but I guess I could convert to Sirius if it were a nicely integrated package...

I guess it would be too much to ask, and too forward thinking, but I would love the factory radio unit to do digital AM and FM also, which will be gaining momentum in the next year or so.

i have a kenwood 911dvd unit. it allows me to play dvd's in the rear since i have the factory dvd. it also allows me to watch the dvd in the front as well and also put tv as an output on the factory screen. although kenwook does not come with xz it has sirius. both are the same in my opinion

You might try this: http://www.installer.com/acc/frdfaux.html

It allows an aux for the CD input.

That would work if there was a CD input, which there isn't on the 03 in-dash changer.
