You would be better off just putting an up pipe in without the tee at all,, then worry about blocking the inlet on the egr cooler. Or just cutting the mating flange on your existing up pipe and welding it then clamping it on the egr cooler (but using a solid up pipe). From what I am understanding about what you are planning,, there isn't enough room or play to put the plug in and have everything in the stock location. There is a gasket between the two parts,, and it's prob .020" thick. You could do this if that plug is max about .100 thick. And the ones I've seen are more like .250". Those plugs are not intended to be put in with everything in place. They are for blocking the up pipe so you don't have to replace it. It's basically a shortcut.

Post a link to the actual part you bought. That would clear it all up.

I welded a freeze plug in my up pipe about 6 years ago. I didn't change to a single pipe without a EGR diverter as some people on this site felt you needed the support of the diverter to support the up pipe. I just ordered the plug off of ebay as Mark said the freeze plug will burn out in time. Now you say that plug will not work. Has anyone installed the stainless steel plug? I does seem kind of thick.

Thinking for the price and aggrevation just get the solid uppipe for no egr for now, this will still let water go thru for time being but no exhaust, dont think water alone was busting these things, when i build my turbo, install the stc, turbo supply and return lines ill do the full delete minus the pipe it will already be inplace, but im thinking i need to tack weld the egr valve closed so never opens while plugged in.
