Quick Carb Question
Quick Carb Question
I'm going to rebuild my carb. I basically douched it with engine degreaser on the outside. Is it a no no to hose it off with high pressure water???
I just want to get the outside clean before disassembly. This is only my third time rebuilding a carb. Once in HS then a couple years ago for my sno-blower but that was simple and I didn't need to clean it. Just put the whole thing in the carb cleaner before I disassembled.

We soak ours in coastic for a day or so and hit it with a tooth brush and then aluminum polish. We blow out the journals with carb and choke cleaner and then bath everything in the kitchen sink. The VOC gets mammas ire up though.
Air dry and reassemble.

OMG...If I did that I'd be putting a new sink in the kitchen! LMAO. Mine gets PO'd when I wash my hands in the kitchen sink or hock a LOOGY in it. Just a tad OCD.
My bride has 2 teenaged boys and ME. She gave up long ago....
A lot of guys use Pine Sol submerge a disassembled carb in Pine Sol wash off with warm or cool water. Much cheaper the a gallon of carb cleaner.

This thread is turning into a carb-cleaning topic, so I'll toss this up for a target:
(1) My 2100 has the brass throttle shaft bushing, and I think they all did.
(2) I remember someone pointing out that the 2150's got some sort of bushing seal that had PTFE or something in it, or around it.
(3) More than an hour in real carb dip is supposed to damage it.
(4) Does someone have specifics on this, or can verify the notion?
I don't mean to pass around 'fake facts' here.

Unless they've changed it, that carb dip is some nasty stuff. I quit using it 30 years ago because I can't stand the smell and it permeates everything.
I usually degrease real gunky carbs in the parts washer before disassembly. I buy Berryman's B12 by the case, great stuff. Clean the outside, inside and spray it through the passages, blow out with air. One can is generally plenty.

It's 18.00 for a gallon with the dip basket inside and Pine Sol isn't going to do jack squat compared to a lye based solvent.
Oh man, talk about stealing something of mammas. She found a couple of her dish towels in my rag pile... You washed these with your rags?!!!!!! You'd of thought I washed her wedding dress with dirty diapers. LOL ( except I wasn't laughing I was trying to hide behind the furnace! ).

Years ago my dad ripped me a new one for washing my dirty rags in the same washing machine that the family clothes gets washed in. Since then, my dirty rags and clothes just go in the trash when they get too dirty....... by then, new clothes are worn out enough to be work on the car clothes......
