I'm looking at buying a 2005 Ford Ranger 4x4. It has what appears to be a small blue indicator light directly under the headlamp switch. (My 98 Ranger doesn't have one) Does anyone know what its purpose is, or is it something aftermarket. (The current owner has no idea and has never seen it light up)
Could it be like my 05'Expedition? To turn on the fog lamps, pull out on the headlight switch and it lights up a little. To turn off the fog lamps, push in the switch.
I haven't bought the truck yet so I don't have access to the owners manual. The hi-beam indicator is in the instrument cluster. The truck does have fog lights and the switch for those in kind of in the center of the dash below the radio. I didn't try them so I'm not sure if that is what the little light is for or not. Unless I find something real funky after putting the truck up on a lift tomorrow to check it out better, I will probably be buying it. It only has 61K on it and the price is real sweet. If I buy it, I will find out what the scoop is and post my findings.
I don't understand the purpose of those links either. But like I said, the blue light is DEFINITELY 100% aftermarket. It's something that a prevous owner installed. And none of us have any psychic abilites, or time travel abilities to see what a previous owner did to his truck years ago. So like I said, the ONLY way to know what it's for is to look under the dash to see what it's connected to.
If I had to guess, I'd say it's for an aftermarket alarm system. But that's only a guess.
I am DEFINITELY 100% sure that aftermarket or not, it's not worth the aggravation of stuffing my head under the dash to try to trace wires, especially at my age. The previous owner had no idea what it was for, which was why I put the post up in the first place. He bought the truck used in 2006 with very few miles on it and has never seen it light up. I was satisfied with the answers that were given to my post. When RedTaurus94 posted the links I responded (looking for clarification) as I thought that perhaps he had some knowledge as to what it might be.
