Im still trying to troubleshoot what's supposed to look right inside my engine bay. I'm still very inexperienced and have only fixed pretty much what I had surefire pictures of to help me identify their parts (later researching theory of operation and troubleshooting). I just cannot figure out what this hose is, though. Of all the vacuum diagrams I've looked at, picture or drawn, I just don't see this hose in there (connects to my air system check valve. From what I understand from reading and blowing through both ends, it's a one way valve) connects to. I didn't notice this hose until I recently got stuck in 2wd and on my out in 4wd something got kicked up into my engine bay and knocked a bunch of hoses off that I reconnected. Anyway, if someone has a picture of their engine bay, particularly the passenger side, it would be a great help. I'm going to attach a photo of the hose in question. It's the bottom one; I figured out the top one doesn't connect anywhere, it just sits freely. I should also note I heard an intense hitting noise, similar to that of my fan making contact with something
I just went and looked at my truck. The hose off the part behind the battery is just a vent hose. It snakes between the jack and heater fan, and hangs down the inner fender. The other connection is different than mine . I have an '87 and have the injector cooler fan and a different setup for all that stuff there.
I'll be updating as I search my truck, part numbers, and google. I'm on duty so apologies for slow replies.
As I made apparent before, I'm very new. It took me awhile (until just now) to realize what I was looking at and where lead to what; that hose of question is connected to my diverter valve (which is connected to my air pump, who would've known? Lol). Will soon post a picture of the inlets/outlets and where they lead.
In reply to the presumed missing fan, I'm not entirely sure if my truck in particular is set up like that. My can is very deliberately bolted as it is shown in my picture. Will do further research to confirm.
Sending these two back to back, didn't realize I didn't post the other until I opened the app again lol.
The hose in question is sitting in place of a catalytic converter, but it's a stinking old vehicle so naturally it doesn't have one. The one way valve is just there to do it's job with, though poorly explained, maintaining pressure. All assumptions now, the hose attached to my check valve is probably just to protect the end of it from debris.
If anyone has any corrections at all, PLEASE post them! I'm about to call it and move on to a whistling noise I can't identify (other than coming from my passenger side, go figure) which is going to eventually lead to me replacing all my hoses, starting with dry rot ones first lol.
