I'm at a Holiday Inn Express in Portland Oregon at the largest swap meet on the west coast. Got some good jailbar stuff, then my buddy John who I came with called me to say a 47 one ton where he was looking. I asked if pickup he said cab/chassis. Well it was long running boards with the bed sides strapped to the frame, tailgate in their booth, excellent rear fenders alongside tailgate. New brakes on front, 59ab he got from a friend and installed, runs strong. New aluminum radiator because tweakers stole original, Floors like new, door bottoms perfect. California title he got in his name in Oregon last month. The guy will deliver it up north next week. It was his Dad's project but he died last year . I have a lot of pics on my phone but don't know how to go from phone to computer and post. Oh wait it has 5 really nice hubcaps. John and I are having some cocktails and next we go to dinner so more details to follow. I could text some pics if interested but maybe tomorrow. It was a very screaming deal, like half of what it costs to get a flathead rebuilt in this day and age.
Yes, It was too nice to pass up. The box is dissasembled but good, the rear fenders are much better than average and have paint on the inside of the flanges. It has the key and it works in the ignition and the door. It has a lube sticker inside the door from a California gas station 30 years and 1000 miles ago. Has the original black and yellow California plates. Has the lug wrench with the lock ring removal tip. Maybe I can do my phone pictures this morning after we eat. Yes, I have two other tonner pickups. One is complete but lots of rust and the other is quite incomplete. This truck has bad tires, but 5 nice rims and the hubcaps are near perfect. The guy will deliver it north and we'll meet half way between his place and mine.
I emailed them to myself and this should work.... Any price tag showing up was only suggested retail. As with all bigger trucks, he hadn't had many lookers and didn't want to take it home unsold, so I helped him out Also came with a double order of jailbars, extra instrument panel, front fenders etc since he had a parts truck at one time.
.
Great find, Gary. Maybe I need to schedule spring trips to Portland. Is the swap meet out at PIR? Seems like a logical place to have it. Stu
There are two venues, the Racetrack (PIR) and the expo center with acres under cover. The racetrack is much cheaper for a booth and has a more eclectic crowd and not too many rules. The expo ctr has a lot of commercial and big time vendors and many high quality old parts, nicely displayed. AND large clean restrooms. (showing my age). I bought some nice parts too. A set of used original johnson lifters, personally chosen from a box of maybe 200 of them, two pickup hubcaps for the woodie, Two bead blasted carbs, kits for above, Tail light assembly with license bracket (model A?) for the back door on the woodie. Inside rearview mirror, a 6.50 x 16 on a good wheel, and other small items I carried around in a scoop away kitty litter bucket I bought for a buck. I have the entire 8' pickup box with fenders in the back of my suburban, along with all the loose parts the truck came with. It's a heap for sure. I teeter on the slope of buyer's remorse, but then I always do for a couple of days. I have numerous things I can sell to recoup the total and I just may. Anybody want a euro-spec mercedes diesel wagon or a BSA 441 Victor Special?
Sounds like Iola, Carlisle, and Hershey. The stuff indoors is offered by dealers who drive up prices, and the sellers outdoors under canopies and on tarps are just guys. Maybe next year. Stu
