E40D aftermarket speedometer

I got a 1952 Dodge ambulance sitting on a 1993 Ford F-250 7.3idi automatic. I'm trying to hook up an aftermarket speedometer. My questions is what wire do I use to get the pulse signal into the new speedometer. Do I have to keep the old speedometer for the transmission to shift properly? I could hide it under the dash if that is the case. I found the VSS on top of the rear differential but I'm not sure if that is where I find the signal. Any help would be appreciated. Ford speedometer not looking very good
This is the aftermarket speedometer I'm trying to hook up.

We hid the old speedo in the dash. The trans controller needs a square wave 8000 pulse per mile signal and the stock speedo does a fabulous job of creating that from the diff mounted speed sensor's AC signal.

We tapped into that same 8k ppm signal output (grey w/black) to drive our Autometer electronic speedo. Then we went through the Autometer calibration routine and it has worked great ever since.
