I think we've had this conversation, but just in case we haven't, you do know that the only difference between a 400 and a 351M is the crank and pistons? So, find a 400 crank and buy the right pistons and you'll have a 400. And, since the crank is much easier to ship than a complete engine, maybe you won't have to travel.
But, the only one that has pistons that will give good compression on a 400 is Tim Meyer, and you don't want to build a low-compression engine. And, while you are at it do Tim's mod's to the oiling system.

we have had this convo lol. And yes i know its only the crank and pistons. I was was just looking for an engine because im sure a lot of people arent gonna want part out a engine ya know ill look back on the website at those pistons
Haha just figured it might be worth getting a slightly more narrowed down location for the OP since I would venture to say that 'willing to travel' might have some limitations.
Forgot you were native to there though although now I recall you mentioning a run-in with a KS cop in the Mugshot thread.
so i was talking to some guys that think they k ow what theyre talking about. But ill ask yall.
I found a 400 crank. So all i have to do is throw that in and buy a 400 rebuild kit with pistons and im good right ? They were saying id have to do head work and change rods blah blah blah. But from what ive got on all the post on here. Its just crank and pistons. Also i wanna bore. I was tbinking about doing .030 over but ive seen in other forums thats too much. What should i do ?

They do not know what they are talking about. The only difference between a 351M and a 400 is the crank and the pistons. The heads are exactly the same, as are the blocks, pans, intakes, etc.
However, if you go with an off-the-shelf rebuild kit you are wasting your time as you will wind up with 8:1 compression. If that's what you want you could do that with a rebuild kit for a 351M. But if you are going to the trouble of finding a crank and build a 400 you need to get your pistons from Tim Meyer. There is no one else that has pistons that will give you anything but 8:1. No one.
As for boring, .030" is no problem at all. In fact, that a pretty standard dimension. The 351M in Rusty, the truck I sold recently, was bored .060" over, although that's more than I would recommend.
