That fluid is for mercon which is what we use. You need 7.6 qts. Did you put the electrical connection in?

That transmission is thirsty. It is really low. Usually it leaks out where the rubber plugs have failed when the truck is running. Remember you said it didnt leak. That could be because the fluid was so low IF the plugs are fatigued. Plus you had no fluid on the cover when you pulled it.

Is the gasser ZF some really different animal? The ZF5 behind the diesel takes only about half that much fluid.

Thank you very much. I got punchy I think

Ksanglem

Thanks to madpogue it is now 7.6 PINTS so you are ok. 7.6 qts would have probably created a mess like I had.

OK we will RTV them to save your tranny and at the least having you do this get into the tranny again when it starts marking its territory.

OR Whatever you want to do.

In the meantime you can make sure and tighten the elect, connection. You don't have to hook it up now as it is coming off when the new fluid goes in.
See if you can get the cover to start lowering like the forks are going into the sliders. You can very gently wiggle and help get the cover to go flush with the tranny. If it goes on you can put in about 4 cover bolts and snug them and work the shifter with the clutch in. DON'T start the truck. A couple of moves and take it off and do the fluid. At that point if you want to rtv let me know.

just pour it in. I would see if the cover fits first you dont have to bolt it and try it. Just see if it goes on so we know.
