I have a factory installed single CD player in my 2004 Diesel F250 and would like to add a CD changer. Has anyone done this to their truck and how much work would be involved ??
what brand of changer? and what is the model number of the radio?
You can find the model number by pulling the radio and reading the sticker on the bottom of the unit. The reason I ask, is because they make convertors for some brands of cd changer into a ford stock radio. check it out and let me know k?
To add a stock unit, all you need is a radio that has the "cd" button to control the changer. The radio will have the extra harness connection. You'll need to purchase a cd changer cable with the changer itself.
If you go aftermarket, there are two possiblities. One if your radio has the cd button, you can buy the adapter that allows the radio to control the aftermarket changer. If your radio doesn't have the cd button, you can add aftermarket changer by installing a fm modulator.
Have you considered the cd/cassette combo? It is a direct replacement unit for your truck. If thats what you have, then it will recoginize the factory changer.
