I agree. I was very happy to find that mine worked this way. I don't know the build date of my truck off the top of my head, but it's a job 1 and I've had it about 2 weeks now. My sync 3 is v2.2 (doubt that has anything to do with it).
If anyone wants to try and trouble-shoot, I'll help any way I can by testing different things or looking for software versions. I haven't installed ForScan yet but it's on my To Do list.
I have Sync 3. V 2.0 - so yours is a newer version.
Interesting, mine wouldn't come out of active trailer till I plugged in the first time. It may have something to do with engine running, or maybe putting on the brakes. I do have Sync 3 ver 2.0. Works great now and I haven't done anything that I know of.
I deleted all my trailers stored on my truck and will try to hook up again tomorrow. My truck would default to the tow screen rather my trailer was hooked to it or not. If I wanted the digital speedometer I have to manually select it every start up.
I hooked up my trailer for the first time today. After disconnecting, the screen said "No active trailer" and I was good to go. I guess it's an update issue after all.
I've disconnected my trailers both ways-with truck running and turned off and it's the same every time. After disconnecting the trailer, mine shows no active trailer without me having to do anything.
The only time my truck defaults to the trailer screen at start up is when I have a trailer connected (and it does this every time I start the truck with a trailer connected, regardless of the last screen I was on). Once I unplug the trailer, it's like it was never there until I plug it in again. It behaves the same way for trailers that I've configured and saved as well as those that I just plug in and disconnect without running through setup. Pretty sure this is how it should work.
For those that have to select "no active trailer," I believe there should be a fix. I just have no idea what that "fix" is. Let me know if I can try anything or look for any settings for you-maybe we can isolate some difference between trucks.
One more thing...my truck has both the 5th wheel and gooseneck prep, but all of my trailers are conventional and have been plugged in at the bumper. I've not plugged anything into the bed connection yet.
Could this his be a 5th wheel/bed connection thing? I'll try plugging into my bed connection this weekend just to see what happens.
Mine does the same as OP. I have to select no active trailer but I've only hooked up once to our 5th wheel. Mine has the 5th wheel package and was plugged into the bed connection.
After unhooking my TT with or without the engine on I have to select no active trailer or my dash will always default to the towing screen AND more importantly miles will add to the trailer when not towing it. This is absurd to have to do this. I sure hope their is a software update down the road. If it recognizes when a trailer is plugged in it should recognize when it is not and not add miles to an unhooked trailer and allow you to change the dash to your display and next time you start up it should be on the display you want not the towing screen.

I agree. It took me a while to figure out why it kept going to the towing screen. I'm not sure why Ford programmed it this way.
