OK guys, I have a Magnetic gray heavily optioned Lariat ultimate F450 on order. It's still in processing with no ETA, but I got the VIN over a week ago. My dealer says the truck will be built by the end of April, but they say there is no ETA so I'm not sure how they know this info. Well I just got a call from another dealership, which I visited while doing test drives and they said they have a Magnetic Gray Platinum F450 that was built last week and has a delivery ETA to them in 2 weeks, and wanted to know if I was still in the market for this type of truck...
Should I try and talk my wife into the Platty, or patiently wait for the truck we ordered?
Sounds like that is all about personal preference. What do you get with the Platinum that your not getting with the ultimate and is it worth the extra dollars to you. Im sure your wife will like the massaging seats though. That seems to be a big thing for the significant others that i noticed on here.
This Platty's MSRP is about 7K more than (84K MSRP over 77K MSRP) of the one we ordered, but that was after me starting with almost every option, then us talking though if we would really use it and would it be worth the extra $$$. However, I think I may try and talk her into a 7K stress reducing (convenience fee), so we don't have to stress if the one we ordered will be here on time. My niece is getting married in the first week of July in the Philly area. To get there we have a cross country RV (5th wheel) trip planned and have a drop dead start date of when we need to leave the Portland area in the 3rd week of June, to hit all our stops (Yellow stone campsite already reserved, peak season still have to pay if canceled, same with Mt. Rushmore), then after the wedding we already booked our campground near Orlando and have Disney tickets (we have 2 young kids). I would much rather be puttering around breaking a truck in for the next 2.5 months than waiting more than 1.5 for mine to come in and maybe getting less than a month (dealer is saying a couple weeks) of time to break it in before the long trip.
I would go through the build sheet on the platinum and verify that is has absolutely everything you want. Details matter, like the axle ratio. The fact that it's a platinum means you're getting almost all the options possible, but I would still check.
Make sure the dealer with your existing order isn't going to hassle you.
I would try talking price with them. In my case the differencein price wasn't very much on a 350 at the end of the day. Stress has a price, sometimes it's worth a little money to get a better truck with a higher resale value and features you didn't originally want!

I went over the window sticker of the Platty, other than the "extras" it has for being a platinum, the only thing it has that we didn't want (but I can deal with) is the console vault, and there is only one axle ratio available in the 450's so no worries there, lol.
Truth be told, and if this conversation gets back to my wife I'm in the dog house, but I wanted a Platinum all along. My wife is just very frugal and wanted to go over every option, and we jumped down to the Lariat and option it up. The truck is my 40th birthday gift to myself, and something the family will enjoy on RV trips, so why not get more, lol...
Nearly the same thing happened to me, but I had not ordered my truck yet. The dealer near my parents had a nearly identical one to what I was going to order on the lot, but it had about $2,000 in options that I was not planning on getting. But it meant I could get it much sooner than ordering. In the end I am very glad that I bought the one on the lot instead of waiting. This way I am loving my 2017 Lariat CCLB 6.7 F350 DRW 4x4 instead of hitting the refresh button over and over again.
...instead of hitting the refresh button over and over again.
You sure nailed that, lol... I refresh the window sticker at least 20 times a day, hit cotus in the morning, a couple times throughout the day, and ETIS a couple times a day as well, lol...
I think my salesman is monitoring the forums, I literally just got a call from him saying he is doing his best to keep me informed and in the loop and that based on the GM's experience is why they say the truck should be built by the end of the month, although there is no ETA, and just the GM's familiarity with ford after so many years. Little does he understand, that doesn't reduce my stress of waiting for the truck.
Dealer did nothing wrong and you're looking to cut out of them because you've gotten antsy? And folks wonder why some dealers hate doing orders for customers. Just saying. Man up and stick with your agreement.
The truck may get built by the said date; but..................there is shipping, and the railroad is VERY independent!! It might sit in some yard for 2 weeks, 100 miles away from the final destination, and there is absolutely NOTHING that you, the dealer, Trump, the Supreme Court or anyone else can do about it!!! It will sit until released to truck for dealer delivery!!! It sucks......

It is great to see you in this thread, I would love to get your feedback on what I was literally just told by my salesman. That they "Know" the truck will be built by the end of the month based on his GM's experience with Ford after so many years. I have no issues sticking with my original agreement, however I made it clear to the dealer when I placed the order, that if it looks like it isn't going to come in- in time that I would need to look for another truck. I was very clear on that point, but at the same time, I feel they deserve a little more time to see when/if an ETA comes in. This other truck was built on 3/29 and the other dealer called me stating that they expect it here in 2 weeks, and to see if I was interested in it.
When we look at an ordered unit there are 11 columns of data per order including vin and start/end ETA. I don't know about any hunches, I haven't been in long enough to know them. It's also possible they are putting some weight behind it to make sure its done as most dealers do not want a custom ordered DRW pick up sitting around unsold. I'd say normally the VIN comes at the same times s the ETA dates. Trim levels can fill up differently too. I ordered an XL about the same time I ordered one for a forum member and the XL has had a VIN for two weeks and I'm still waiting for the FTE truck (figures right?). You are pushing up a hard deadline and I hate ordering against such things and making predictions.
That XL is scheduled to bu built on April 22, and be at the dealer the week of May 4th. I don't order enough DRW pick ups to know if they take longer, but shipping is generally streamlined.
Thanks for the feedback Frantz. I asked both my salesman and the GM about an ETA, because I too was under the impression that it came in at the same time as the VIN, They gave me the VIN 10 days ago, but as of my phone call with the salesman about an hour ago, they still haven't gotten the ETA. Waiting on a new truck is like the longest Christmas eve ever, and my son was born on Christmas eve so I know what a long night that can be, lol.
