Flat Head Pic

We finished rebuilding the flat head going into our 50 F1. We put it in last weekend. My son in law is a professional photographer and wanted to take a picture before we put it in the truck. 1952 Flat Head bored .060 over, adjustable lifters, pretty much all stock.

Very nice picture!

What oil pan is that? I've never seen one with ribs like that.

I'm not exactly sure what the engine came out of. The engine was at the F-in-L in a trailer. The engine that was in the truck was stuck so my son used this engine. It has EAB 6050D heads making me think it came out of a car. The machinest said it had hardened valve seats. For some reason I got the impression it was a 51 or 52 engine. I guess I don't know enough about the engine.

It looks like a clean pristine studio.

I think '53 trucks had EAB engines, otherwise, yes they were Car engines. Who knows after 60 years?! The hardened seats indicate '50 or earlier, or were added later.

The only concern I'd have with that pan is that it has no provision for bracing the bottom of the bellhousing. Are there studs on the bottom of the pan? (sticking downwards)

No there was no studs in the pan. I think there was 6 or 8 bolts that held the bell housing to the block and at the bottom of the bell housing was the plate that holds the starter.

I asked over on Ford Barn, and they confirmed that is a 52 - 53 car oil pan, and that they didn't have the brace to the BH.

A true thing of beauty, nicely captured by your Son in law, and now preserved for eternity now that it is on the internet.
