7.3 no start, tach pegged?
Parked the f250 sat night running perfect. Had just finished a 6hr drive. I'm 6hrs from home.
Sun mornin it would not start.
it cranked for about 4sec, tried to hit then went back to just cranking. Did this several times in a row. Tach is showing about 1-200 cranking rpm's & it has fuel & it's smoking when cranking so it's getn fuel in the cylinders.
About 3wks ago my check engine light blinked for a second. Scan came up as an ICP code. So startef thinking low oil pressure. Unplugged the ICP still no start just the same hit & miss. Pulled the ICP & cranked the engine. Barely any oil flow. Bought an IPR, installed it this mornin. Same hit & miss crank & still low oil flow with ICP removed. Got out of truck & replaced the ICP. Got back in & now my tach is pegged out.
All fuses are good & OBD 2 is showing ground & bat voltage correctly yet the scanner says can't communicate.
So I swapped in an old cam sensor. Same hit & miss while cranking the first 3 times. 4th time I pressed the excelerater while cranking & it fired right up. Tons of grayish smoke & it ran like crap for a few minutes but, it ran. Started it a few times then let it sit while I cleaned up for a test drive. Came back out, cycles the glow plugs, no hit, all miss. Crank, crank, crank it wouldn't hit. Mashed the go pedal & turned the key with out using the glow plugs & it busted right off. The test drive went great & im headed back south in a few minutes but the tach is still pegged.
Why won't the scanner communicate & what's wrong with my tach?

Must of been his scanner cause when I got home mine plugged in & read fine.
Anyone have any idea why the tag would suddenly be pegged out ?
I pulled the cluster hopping it would reset somehow by disconnecting it. No such luck. I did turn the cluster upside down & shake it & the needle would bounce down a little then go right back to being pegged out.
Any help would be appreciated.
