Just finished installing my power windows now to fix the radio.
In a previous post was told to just hot wire radio; instead of fixing/replacing the Instrument Cluster.
OK so I cut the power wire(hot all time) and it wouldn't.
Next I cut the assc. wire and if I put the two together it works.
Problem is isn't there some kind of memory(keep stations programed) and clock the reason for 2 different wires???
I believe that most (if not all) modern radios have two different power feeds for the reasons you have identified. Our trucks also have a radios on until doors open feature once the ignition is shut off.
You usually have a switched hot (which is tied into a timer and the doors as mentioned), plus you have a constant hot which is for all your presets and such.
Now seeing as you have wired both of these to a constant hot the memory will be fine, but the radio will not turn off on its own when the door is opened etc. so you will need to ensure you actually turn the radio each time you exit the vehicle or you could end up with drained batteries!
